Breaking news: Women are surpassing men in every area of enterprise and entrepreneurship…well not really. But women are certainly taking charge of their own destinies more so now than ever before. We run things in the classroom, courtroom, boardroom, and yes, the bedroom. Gone are the days when we waited for men to bring home the bacon so we could fry it up in a pan for them. We are business owners, attorneys, surgeons, realtors, producers, and undoubtedly the toughest job of them all, mothers. We are all that and then some. We are women and yes we do roar.
There is definitely something to be said for having an independent spirit, after all isn’t independence one of the qualities we try to instill in our children as they get older? But what happens when that independent, self-sufficient attitude turns into, “I don’t need anyone to help me,” or “I run this show and all others are just extras in my cast.” All I’m saying is it is possible to take the independent woman theme way too far, sometimes intentionally, sometimes inadvertently, but too far just the same.
To that end I ask you to contemplate the following: Is there is a reason why marriages from previous generations typically lasted for decades and why, in the converse, today’s marriages on average last a relatively short period of time? Is there is a reason why the Creator made both man and woman and gave each of them specific attributes based on gender? I believe there is. The reason is simply balance. In all things in life there must be balance. You cannot have the yin without the yang, the up without the down, or the good without the bad. In the same way, you can have a free-spirited, forward thinking, independent persona if that’s what is in your heart—but without the balance of some anchoring force in your life, you run the risk of alienating others to the point where independent is all that you may ever be.
It has been said that men have all the authority, but women have all the influence. Now, I don’t know if I agree with that completely because we all have authority over our own lives and our own destinies. But it is true that women have enormous influence. Women are the givers of life, the cultivators of society, and the teachers of love. Our influence has been prominent since the beginning of time. So powerful in fact that a certain woman was able to convince a certain man that just a taste of forbidden fruit was worth getting kicked out paradise. The question is how do you use your influence? Do you wear it like a badge of honor or do you wield it like a two-edged sword? The former will inspire those around you and the latter will alienate those who may eventually no longer wish to be around you. I know that all of us spirited women are on a mission to get to the top. We are all running the rat race, climbing the ladder, and shattering glass ceilings, which all require a certain amount of independence and strength. But just be careful that the independence you are using to get to the top is not the very same independence that will leave you standing at the top alone.
These damn hormones! I am a firm believer in maintaining positive thoughts and a positive attitude for best results, but sometimes positivity is just not feasible. And by sometimes, I mean when you are PMS’ing. Ah yes, it’s that wonderful time of each and every month when your body is preparing for a visit from Aunt Flo, also known as “Evil Becomes Her” week.
For at least 3-5 days before my cycle I am a crabby, complaining, cranky mess. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep, no matter how positive or negative the day is going, I will find something, anything to complain about. Undoubtedly everyone around me gets tired of hearing me complain because eventually I’ll get tired of complaining. Sometimes I wonder how my employees, friends, and my king put up with me when I could very well turn into the chick from The Exorcist at any given moment.
Why’d you have to bite the apple Eve? We were home free. No pain during childbirth, no painfully inconvenient cycle every 30 days, and no dreaded PMS symptoms. We were running around the Garden of Eden literally footloose and fancy free and you just had to have a little taste of apple, huh? I know you liked apples Eve, but I don’t like these apples…
Mastermind. Dictionary.com defines the word as a noun; a person who originates or is primarily responsible for the execution of a particular idea, project, or the like. But Napoleon Hill, one of the greatest educators, motivators, and philosophers that ever lived teaches us the true definition of the term “Mastermind.” He teaches us that a mastermind is not someone with highly specialized or even general knowledge, but rather it is the person who has so developed the faculties of their mind such that they can acquire anything they want or its equivalent without violating the rights of others. A master of their own mind.
Mr. Hill takes it one step further when he talks about the importance of developing one’s “mastermind alliance.” This singular principal is so important to understand, that one must in fact master it before any control can be had over the master key to success. A mastermind alliance is where two or more people work together in perfect harmony for the attainment of a definite purpose. This concept of the mastermind has formed the basis for what I believe to be my life’s purpose, my vision, my calling.
I am a student of metaphysical philosophies and spiritual laws. Through my studies, I have come to realize that it is only through the synthesis and interplay between the spiritual and physical worlds that one can ever experience any tangible success. I have come to realize that I, like every one of you reading this, am a spiritual, powerful being, endowed with more skill, talent, ability and favor than I could ever hope to use in a lifetime. And my gift back to the Creator who endowed me with all of these blessings, is to develop and use as much of it as I possibly can in this lifetime.
The majority of people watch television, movie, and music stars and believe that they could never achieve that level of success; that they simply are not worthy of it. When the truth is that we all have specific and special talents and abilities to do whatever it is that we want with them. What we don’t all have is the realization of these gifts. We have not found the master key to unlocking the power within. So how do you go about understanding your own “mastermind?” How does one develop the faculties of his or her mind such that they can acquire anything they want or its equivalent without violating the rights of others? Well I can tell you that I don’t know. I am not an expert. I am not a teacher. I am a student. I am still learning my capabilities and my limitations, whether real or perceived. I am in the process of defining my purpose, solidifying my vision, strengthening my faith, and finding new blessings to be grateful for with each passing day.
But that’s what we are here for. Mutterings of A Mastermind is one woman’s study of the interplay between the metaphysical and the physical. It is about the realization of power, the manifestation of vision, and the transformation of the ordinary into the astronomical. This blog, these words, and yes you, are all a part of my mastermind alliance. This union we are forging is as much about you and your thoughts as it is about mine. This extraordinary group you are now a part of by virtue of you reading this, will work together for the attainment of a definite purpose. What is the purpose you may ask? The purpose is to decipher what is in your mind and how to master it, as I do the same for the world to see.
